LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS
The Evangelism Committee We are now working on two different projects. The first project was mentioned earlier in this letter under S.N.A. P. which is the Special Needs Assistance Program found in the NEWS FOR YOU section. This will be an ongoing project and will take a lot of hard work. As mentioned earlier, information will be forthcoming via church news. If you are interested in helping with this project please contact Debbie Moyer.
The second project is updating St. John’s membership records. We will be contacting members who have not been present and who have not given to the church financially in quite sometime. We want everyone to know they are welcome and are missed in our church family.
We also invite you to volunteer in assisting on visits to the shut-ins. This takes approximately three hours of your time once a month. This is a wonderful experience for both the members and the shut-ins. Please contact Debbie Moyer if you are available to volunteer or would like the name of someone who has volunteered in the past to share their experience with you or more detailed information. Thank you for all of your support, The Evangelism Committee.
The Fund Raising Committee We would like to thank everyone who purchased Easter flowers. We are working the greenhouse to make available the sale of Memorial Day boxes for the cemetery. We will let you know when this information is available.
As mentioned earlier the town wide yard sale is also coming up. Please think of us when you are spring cleaning. We have some room in the shed to store some items. Of course we will also need your help to make this the success it was last year. We will also need soup makers and bakers and attendants for the food stand, item stand, money stand, bake sale stand, persons to sort and tag the items. Please let Lori or Debbie know if you will be able to volunteer. We had a lot of fun with this project last year. Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Beck, Mr. Sowers, Mrs. Mates and of course Mr. Mengel. Sincerely, the Fund Raising Committee.
A note from your Joint Board President:
Each month I will communicate with you about what is going on with St. John church. Our joint board will continue to meet and has a lot of work to do. For now we will be working on writing policies for the church, developing new ideas, getting the Finance committee to organize our funds. Most importantly the endowment fund will be explained to us so we will be more knowledgeable in this area. There are many things to be done to tidy up our house before we call on a new pastor.
Undoubtedly through this time you are going to hear many things. I would appreciate if you do not understand something or are going by hearsay and you want to know facts, to please call one of the joint board members or myself. We will do our best to help you understand or find an answer to your query. Please remember that the joint board meetings are open to anyone and everyone who would like to attend.
Please join us in wishing Pastor Karl and Cathy much happiness and success in their new endeavor. We would also like to welcome Pastor David Crowle as our interim pastor who will be here to help us through this transition.
Finally, I believe it is important for us to worship and stay together as a church family. We need to take care of one another; we have a lot of hard work ahead of us in preparing for a future at St. John.
God Bless, Debbie Moyer, St. John Joint Board President.

Special needs assessment program - sNap The Evangelism Committee promoting this program which is intended to help us prepare for potential emergencies. St. John Church will be taking a very active role in this program. Your help will be needed. Announcements will be made in church, followed with a get-together for all who might have questions. The purpose of the program is to register all homebound people with the Emergency Management Agency so that emergency personnel will know where some with special needs is located. This program will be a great asset for St. John and our town of Auburn. VOLUNTEER HOME CARE DID YOU KNOW ..........

NOTES FROM THE JOINT BOARD The Joint Board met on April 15 where they - 1. Met with the Confirmation Class, heard the recommendations for membership from the mentors and approved the three young people for membership. 2. Participated in the exit interview with Pastor Karl. This was conducted by Pastor Bill Pifer-Foote (UCC) and Pastor Joe Scholtes (Lutheran). 3. Approved reports and reviewed finances. 4. Appointed vice-president Carol Karnes as the chair of the newly constituted Finance Committee. The meeting adjourned with President Debbie Moyer leading the group in prayer and then the whole group praying the Lord’s Prayer. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 20, at 7:00 PM. Guest at that meeting will be Pastor Nancy Gottshall, Assistant Conference Minister.
Choir Rehearses every Wednesday at 7:30 PM All voices are welcome! Join us in the sanctuary Don’t forget IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE IS HOSPITALIZED If you, or a member of your family, is hospitalized, or enters a skilled nursing facility, assisted or independent living facility, and you want the church and the pastor to know, please personally (or through a friend or family member) contact Pastor Karl promptly and identify the patient/resident and his/her hospital or facility and room number. Because all area hospitals and facilities may not have the same policies allowing the minister or staff to know when a member becomes a patient or resident, direct notice to the church is the better approach. If you go to a hospital in Reading be sure to give them one of these codes: Lutheran, # 453; UCC, # 822. |
